(Newser) – The Australian radio hosts whose royal hoax led to the apparent suicide of the nurse they tricked are off the air for the time being, reports the Guardian. Sydney station 2Day FM said Mel Greig and Michael Christian were "both deeply shocked" at the death of Jacintha Saldanha. "They will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy."

Earlier this week, the male-female radio team called up the London hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated and tricked Saldanha into giving them information by impersonating the queen. The mother of two was found unconscious today near King Edward VII hospital. "We as a family are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha," said a family statement. A hospital spokesperson called her an "excellent nurse," reports the Daily Mail.

This is a tragedy, plain and simple. And although I think prank phone calls are silly and annoying I am certain their intent was not to have the recipient commit suicide over it. And I don't see how it could be called bullying - they didn't threaten her in any way and she could have hung up or called a supervisor to handle the call.It just a sad situation all the way around.

ARE YOU ALL STUPID? these people literally called a hospital and said "hi i am the queen can i speak to kate" in a terrible accent, you should verify these calls if it's just a normal guest, be 10 times more careful if it's someone of that importance. THERE WAS NO BULLYING WHATSOEVER, you assholes with your blinded self-rightousness are the bullies! Millions of radio shows prank call all the time! this was barely a prank! RIDICULOUS, those people did nothing wrong, that nurse must've had some personal issues.

They should be brought up on charges just like the kids who bully someone into suicide.
