He manages to roll down back window in handcuffs

(Newser) – After they nabbed a man suspected of burglary, Texas police ended up as theft victims themselves. Authorities in the city of White Settlement detained a man reportedly stealing from an antiques shop, leaving him in their car while they spoke to the store's owner. Despite his handcuffs, Darren Douglas Porter, 41, was able "to roll down the window and reach around and unlock the door from the outside," says a police rep, who noted that the cops had thought the back window controls were disconnected.

Porter managed to sneak to the front door and drive away. Soon, police were getting 911 calls about one of their cars driving erratically. They say they've got a "very good chance" of tracking Porter down, NBC 5 reports. "We've dealt with him previously," says the spokesman. "We know his associates, so now we're in the process of contacting them and keeping an eye out for him." Cops plan to add felony theft and escape to his list of burglary-related charges.
