(Newser) – Hasbro has agreed to meet with the 13-year-old New Jersey girl who caught the nation's attention by starting a petition demanding a gender-neutral Easy-Bake Oven. McKenna Pope will meet with Hasbro's Easy-Bake team on Monday to discuss her ideas, the Consumerist reports. McKenna's petition, which laments that her brother refused to buy the oven because it only "comes in gender-specific hues" has drawn more than 40,000 signatures so far.

Among McKenna's supporters are a host of big name chefs. People like Laurent Tourondel, Michael Lomanco, Chopped contestant Joshua Whigham and more posted a YouTube video this week voicing their support, Today reports. Of course, Top Chef judge Hugh Acheson had another take on the matter: "Whatevs about the whole Easy Bake oven in 'dude' colors," he tweeted. "The tough boy chef is the one who cooks 10 course tasting (plus amuses & mignardises) w/PINK Easy Bake oven & not give a hoot about color."

WOW! What an oven! My Easy Bake looked like a cardboard box with a light bulb in it. Yeah, I'm THAT old. :)

Surely the Hasbro oven is available in other colors than pink.  I don't see a problem with a boy using the toy oven but Hasbro would likely produce only a small quantity in a "neutral" color if they did it at all. I've seen the play kitchen in a home with 2 young boys and see nothing wrong with it. BTW, I have a nice collection of collectible dolls and I'm a senior citizen. Some were my mom's and most were collected in addition. My wife doesn't mind it at all and this will be a collection to leave for my granddaughters.
