Joe Biden was in jokesy Uncle Joe mode today at the mock swearing-in of new senators. BuzzFeed takes note of the most talked-about line, when he bantered with North Dakota's Heidi Heitkamp and her family as they got directions from the photographer:
- “Spread your legs. You’re gonna be frisked," he said after Heitkamp's husband was told to drop his arms. Then, to the photographer: “You say that to somebody in North Dakota, they think it’s a frisk.”
- Also: When Republican Ted Cruz's baby daughter started crying, Biden cracked, "That’s a Democrat, I know, but that’s OK." Cruz's wife told him she cries for Republicans, too.
This was really just a photo op, explains the
Washington Post, because the real swearing-in takes place on the Senate floor. The
Post says Biden was especially flirty with senators' moms.
