An Idaho science teacher is being investigated by the state over the content of his 10th-grade biology class. Complaints about Tim McDaniel by scandalized Dietrich school parents include: using the word "vagina," talking about orgasms, showing a video clip of genital herpes, and teaching different forms of birth control during his class on the reproductive system, reports the Times-News. He is also accused of playing politics by showing science students the film An Inconvenient Truth and sharing student files with people other than the students' parents. The details of the latter complaint are not yet clear—it has received markedly less coverage than the "vagina" thing.
McDaniel insists that his lessons come straight from the curriculum and that this is the first time he's had a complaint in 18 years. Dietrich's superintendent says the case is unlikely to end in McDaniel's dismissal; a letter of reprimand from the school board is more likely. But McDaniel says he won't accept it. "I’ve done nothing wrong. I told them I won’t sign it." Not all the locals are against him.
