(Newser) – A Birmingham, Alabama, woman who was hit in the chest by a stray bullet managed to hang onto her newborn even as she fell back into her apartment and died, reports al.com. Police say Sheri Williams, 24, was holding her 10-day-old son while standing in the doorway of her apartment yesterday when she got hit by the bullet and fell back onto a couch. She was found dead at the scene, still cradling her child. He wasn't injured, reports WBRC. Two men had gotten into a fight at a restaurant near Williams' housing complex, and one started chasing the other down the street while shooting, say police. No arrests so far.

If only she would have been packin' heat .. she could have been the proverbial "good guy with a gun" and stopped the bullet in mid-air with a precision defensive shot at the exact millisecond. Then Dennis Miller would be doing 10 minutes on the story on Fox while criticizing Obama for something totally unrelated.

Only in America could a person stand in their doorway & be killed by a stray bullet. It's capitalism flying through the air from the gun & bullet manufacturers directly to the people.

This is extremely sad, but on the same day dozens of children were left without parents due to car crashes. Why is noone is talking about taking vehicles away from people?
