(Newser) – What's the dumbest thing you ever got in trouble for in school? Because two Virginia second-graders probably have you beat. The two 7-year-olds were suspended for two days for pretending their pencils were guns in a game of make-believe, CBS DC reports. "When I asked him about it, he said, 'Well, I was being a Marine and the other guy was being a bad guy,'" says the irate father of one of the two boys. "I see it as the tail now wagging the dog."

The school, however, is standing firm, saying that the policy—which also bans such dangerous activities as drawing pictures of guns or pointing your fingers threateningly—has been in place for at least 20 years. "It’s an effort to try to get kids not to bring any form of violence, even if it’s violent play, into the classroom," a school spokesperson says. "Some children would consider it threatening, who are scared about shootings in schools."

Amazing! The suspension was unwarranted and the person who suspended the child should be shot at dawn by a firing squad!

I agree that suspending a student "for being a kid" is asinine. Playing cops and robbers, cowboys and indians, or any other type of play has been going on for generations and DOES NOT promote violence. But that being said, I have an explanation why this practice continues. School administrators are usually ex teachers. Teachers are not very bright. Becoming a teacher is THE EASIEST path through college. People that become teachers, are students who are too lazy or stupid to be come engineers, or any other career that requires logic, and/or rational thought. They are people, for whom repeating "Because I said so" works. They are essentially robots, spewing forth whatever propaganda fits the scenario. The Public School system (as it exists today) is a joke. A sad joke. So, if you have the least ambitious, least intelligent, least motivated people running the system......... Garbage in, Garbage out.
