(Newser) – Ariel Castro already has been charged with rape and kidnapping, but prosecutors plan to bring murder charges as well that could result in the death penalty. The Cuyahoga County prosecutor says he will pursue aggravated murder charges on allegations that Castro forced his captives to terminate pregnancies, reports the Plain Dealer. (Michelle Knight in particular has told police that Castro got her pregnant five times, then beat and starved her until she miscarried each time.)

"This child kidnapper operated a torture chamber and private prison in the heart of our city," said prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty. He also promised to charge Castro for each instance of rape and assault that the women can recall, reports AP. Castro is being held on $8 million bond, though his brothers Onil and Pedro were released this morning, reports CNN. Prosecutors have said no evidence suggests they knew what was going on.

Here we go again. What's up with you guys who purport to be hard-line on crime & so quickly in favor of giving some creep like this the death penalty? Are you even thinking of this guy's future inside even the 'easiest' prison in this country, getting put in there for life for the crimes he's alleged to have committed? Do you realize what he'll face every day (until some inmate likely kills him in prison one day), what his future behind bars will be like? I'll be surprised if he doesn't manage to commit suicide to avoid going even to the regular city or county jail population while his trial is going on just because he will be a marked man even in the Cleveland city jail. If he gets the death penalty, he gets a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. That's all you're doing when you put these guys to death. The more inhumane thing to do is let them rot for the rest of their lives behind bars. Don't believe me? Look at the mass suicide attempt by hunger strike & force-feeding situation at Gitmo right now. Why do you guys think those Gitmo prisoners are doing that? They prefer death by starvation & suicide then life in the situation they are in right now. This Castro guy in prison for life for what he did to those girls will be in the same situation as those prisoners at Gitmo. Think it over.

Personally, I believe this low-life deserves the death penalty. But, please tell me, who did Castro murder? Because, according to many in this country, a fetus is not a person. Any bets his lawyer(s) won't make this argument? BTW: I never heard the verdict in the Gosnell trail? Not much mention of Gosnell in the news? Any guesses why?
