A police photo of the offending crosswalk.   (Vallejo Police Department)

(Newser) – Anthony Cardenas really, really thought an intersection in his neighborhood of Vellajo, California, needed a crosswalk. So the 52-year-old painted one himself. Now he's in jail on felony vandalism charges. Police made sure nobody used the makeshift crosswalk until a state transportation crew came along and painted over it. Cops say the intersection already has three crosswalks, but Cardenas painted lines through them.

NEWSER... you did a REALLY lousey job on this story. The REAL story is that Anthony Cardenas vandalized three existing cross-walks by painting lines through them and THEN he painted a NEW crosswalk where a cross-walk did not previously exist. THAT is genuine vandalism. You need to do a better job Newser !!!!

Let me explain something. I live in Vallejo, a city that went bankrupt exclusively to bail out of union contracts that paid fire and police larger incomes than Sanfranciso fire and police, with more than 50% of budget allocated to fire and police. Got hit by an Ice-cream truck of all things, Called the police. Anybody injured? Nope, aint comming, no report. Ice cream truck and his insurance Co. got away with it because of lack of any effort by police, Ice cream truck claimed I backed into him to insurance. And here they are Felony harrasing someone who attempts to in his own clumsy way make things safer for others? Every Vallejo police officer deserves a middle finger salute.
