(Newser) – Peter King is not messing around when it comes to journalists who help leak classified information. The congressman told Anderson Cooper on CNN last night that, "if they willingly knew that this was classified information," they should be prosecuted and punished. "I think, something of this magnitude, there is an obligation—both moral but also legal, I believe—against a reporter disclosing something which would so severely compromise national security." He added that "in the past several years a number of reporters ... have been prosecuted" under the Espionage Act.

The response from Glenn Greenwald, who broke the NSA leak story: "Is is [sic] true, as I was just told, that Peter King on CNN called for criminal prosecution of journalists reporting the NSA stories?" he tweeted. As for Edward Snowden, King says he's a traitor and should definitely face charges.

Their hoping to make a big deal out of Snowden to scare the thousands of sub contractors they've hired into towing the line and not getting the same ideas. A lesson for anyone else who wants to spill the beans on the government. Snowden enlightened the American public as to what the government does as far as surveillance which was no big deal since everyone suspected it anyway. How can that be construed as espionage. He never sold Military secrets to other countries. There's something distasteful about a government so paranoid of such a low ranking person to declare him an enemy of the state and that he should be locked up for the rest of his life for telling the truth. He did not lie to us like all the politicians do.

instead of prosecuting journalist for exposing the truths of a corrupt government, perhaps we should prosecute the politicians that are corrupt and take away our rrights instead of promoting them.. The first thing we have to do is not vote them in for a third term no matter which side of the isle they are on

The historic and "blatantly-clandestine" subversion of our U.S. Constitution and betrayal of the public who owns our corporate-communist government CANNOT be classified knowledge. The government has NO RIGHT to secretly spy on our general public just because it wants to know what we are doing! That is why there have been laws requiring court orders to allow surveillance based upon detected criminal activity... NOT on curiosity or suspicion!
