(Newser) – San Diego County parents are just going to have to live with their kids being taught yoga in school, thanks to a Superior Court judge's ruling yesterday. The California parents were suing the Encinitas Union School District to stop the practice, arguing that yoga is inherently religious and thus should not be taught in public schools. But Judge John S. Meyer explained, for almost two hours, that while yoga does have roots in Indian philosophy, the district was careful to remove all cultural references (instead of the lotus position, students learn "crisscross applesauce").

And then there's this colorful detail: The judge said that many of these parents had come to their opinions about yoga via Internet searches, making the proceedings "almost like a trial by Wikipedia, which isn't what this court does." Ultimately, Meyer sided with the district in deciding that yoga isn't always religious and can, as in this case, be taught for the simple purpose of promoting strength, flexibility, and balance. An attorney for one set of parents says he will likely appeal, the AP reports.

I am sure the suing parents would have no objections with the Bible being taught as fact in the classroom or the 10 commandments being hung in the classroom

Greed. Plain and simple. Want money? Find a reason to sue somebody. ANY reason to sue somebody, no matter how stupid and trivial the reason.

It is always nice to see the truth distorted and unfortunately, since progressives emerged in 1916, it has only gotten worse. The constitution declares that the government establish no religion. The reason was at that time England had the Church of England as the official religion, our forefathers wanted to ensure the Government did not make one religion only the official one. They never intended to stifle it in any place. But in order to establish themselves as a ruling class Progressives needed to hammer down religion. Now for the modern political people, Progressives are of all parties and independents, they love it when you blame one party over the other, for as Lincoln said a nation divided, can not stand. So yoga is an exercise and better than MMA.
