(Newser) – A crew from San Francisco's KGO-TV was held up at gunpoint in West Oakland yesterday, despite being accompanied by a security guard and being out in broad daylight. According to cops, the crew was hit at 2:30pm by three robbers, at least one of whom had a gun, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. None of the victims was injured, but the robbers made off with their camera equipment. This is just the latest in a series of similar robberies against news media workers while out and about in Oakland, says the Chronicle—in November last year, one cameraman was assaulted and robbed in the middle of a live broadcast.

The media have been notorious for excusiology, - oh the poor teenager who dad had no job, whose mom drank, and he had a bad hair day, so we must understand why he stole from the jewelry store, and beat up three people strolling along. One can always find an excuse for crime. But crimes should not be excused. Perhaps now the media crew will change their attitudes on conceal and carry laws, on stand your ground laws, on stop and frisk policies. The media have spread lies for years, the Tawana Brawley hoax, the Duke la crosse "rapes," the George Zimmerman white male racist hoax, etc. Perhaps when the media encounter a dose of reality, they might change their perspective.

The irony here is that they were most likely reporting the increase in daytime robberies in Oakland...lol. Every time I turn on the news that seems to be the report.
