A giant panda at Washington's National Zoo has given birth to her third cub, a female. Mei Xiang gave birth late this afternoon, two hours after her water broke. Zoo officials said its panda team heard the cub vocalize and said Mei Xiang picked the cub up immediately and began cradling and caring for it. "WE HAVE A CUB!! Born at 5:32 p.m. this evening," the zoo tweeted. So far, mom and baby are doing well. See for yourself via the zoo's Panda Cam. (Or watch a video of a recent mom-and-cub reunion at the Tapei Zoo.)
