(Newser) – A dog attacked a cat in Alaska, and the reason this is making national headlines is because the cat happens to be the honorary mayor in the town of Talkeetna. The 16-year-old Stubbs was making his usual rounds over the weekend when the attack occurred, reports the Alaska Dispatch. The cat is now recovering at a vet's office in Wasilla, but it's not clear whether he'll survive. Stubbs had become the stuff of legend—and a tourist attraction in his own right—thanks to TV stories like this one last year on KTUU. Talkeetna's other claim to fame is nearby Mt. McKinley.

Poor declawed Stubbs didn't stand a chance. Why would you let a cat go walking all around town knowing he didn't have any way to defend himself? I'm surprised he's lived THIS long. He's had other harrowing experiences besides this one, like being shot with a BB gun (pellet still in him), and jumped from the top of a garbage truck after hitching a ride. This dog attack caused a punctured lung, bruised hips,a long, deep gash in his side and a sternum fracture that may need a plate to repair it. But, he's sitting up and eating now, bless his heart. He's a tough little fellow. Get better baby!

I hope Mr. Stubbs recovers, he did not deserve this. He is a good kitty, and was only doing what cats like to do. He felt safe in his neighborhood, but thanks to some stupid human who trained their dog to go after cats, Mr. Stubbs is now fighting for his life. Thanks human. I do not blame the dog, it was doing what it was taught. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Mr. Stubbs, I wish the best for you.
