(Newser) – Hasan Rouhani might have skipped a handshake with President Obama, but his overtures to the West were still too cozy for hardliners back home: Someone chucked a shoe at the Iranian president upon his return to Tehran, reports AFP. This one was nowhere near as dramatic as the shoe-throwing that caused President Bush to duck—it was launched toward Rouhani's car but missed. He even stood up through the sunroof afterward to acknowledge supporters, who outnumbered the protesters chanting "Death to America." Rouhani and President Obama spoke by phone this week, the first such communication between the nations' leaders since 1979.

"someone chucked a shoe" ?!? this is an example what is called biased reporting by omission. in truth, it was practically a riot scene with a crowd of people slinging shoes, rocks, eggs, and more. NOT just one protester with a lone shoe. his motorcade had to speed off to avoid being overwhelmed. why the need to downplay the event ? better to just not report on it at all if you feel you have to misrepresent the facts.

I'm wondering how long the Iranian government is going to tolerate the extreme jihadist groups in their country who seem to be totally bent on absolutely no cooperation with the U.S. even though this stalemate and the sanctions are ruining their economy.
