Hasan Rouhani might have skipped a handshake with President Obama, but his overtures to the West were still too cozy for hardliners back home: Someone chucked a shoe at the Iranian president upon his return to Tehran, reports AFP. This one was nowhere near as dramatic as the shoe-throwing that caused President Bush to duck—it was launched toward Rouhani's car but missed. He even stood up through the sunroof afterward to acknowledge supporters, who outnumbered the protesters chanting "Death to America." Rouhani and President Obama spoke by phone this week, the first such communication between the nations' leaders since 1979. (More Iran stories.)
