No. 1 Memphis Handles Houston 89-77

The No. 1 Memphis Tigers beat the Houston Cougars 89-77 and at 20-0 matched the best start in school history. Chris Douglas-Roberts had 30 points and Joey Dorsey snared 22 rebounds. Memphis dominated the smaller Houston squad down low; the Tigers outrebounded the Cougars 49-29 and had 44 points in the paint, reports the Associated Press. Dion Dowell led Houston with 23 points. In other Top 25 games:

  • Michigan State was down at halftime to Illinois but came on strong in the second half to earn a 51-41 victory. At 19-2 the No. 8 Spartans are off to their best start in school history.
  • Josh Young scored 24 points and helped No. 16 Drake extend its winning streak to 18 with a 75-65 win over Creighton.
