(Newser) – A New York City man embroiled in a custody dispute threw his 3-year-old from the roof of a 52-story Manhattan apartment building on West 60th Street before jumping to his death yesterday. The two landed on two lower roofs of an adjacent building. Dmitriy Kanarikov, 35, died at the scene; Kirill Kanarikov was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Kanarikov didn't live in the building, but the New York Post reports a friend may have been a resident.

Kanarikov had visitation rights with the child and was supposed to hand him back to his mother, who had custody, at a police precinct yesterday afternoon. The Post adds this awful detail: Kanarikov's Facebook page is full of photos of him with his child, and includes this post from September: "I want to be the best dad and husband. Nothing is more important to me right now." The AP notes it's the second time this year a parent has plunged from a New York City building with his or her child. In the March incident, the 10-month-old miraculously survived.

Where is Mayor elect de Blasio? Obviously 50+ story apartment buildings are extremely dangerous and should be banned immediately.

Aw. He just couldn't bear the thought of giving his child to anyone else, right? He's a very caring father (he said so himself, so why doubt him?)

When you are sick and intent on doing harm to others it doesn't take a firearm !
