A member of the "9/11 truther" movement took over the microphone at a Super Bowl postgame interview last night, albeit briefly, Mediaite reports. As game MVP Malcolm Smith was being interviewed, the man got in a few words: "Investigate 9/11. 9/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government." As the man was ushered out, Smith suggested his press pass be checked. The man, since identified as Brooklynite Matthew Mills, 30, did have a pass on his neck, NJ.com notes, but it wasn't a Super Bowl one.
The independent journalist tells the site that it was from a festival he'd written about. Mills says he originally just wanted to get near the game in order to conduct fan interviews, but when he saw an employee bus, he got aboard. When checked multiple times by security, "I just said I was running late for work and I had to get in there," he says. "I just saw my opportunity to get my word out there and I took it." Deadspin recently reported that Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has also raised questions about what happened during the attacks. (Read more Malcolm Smith stories.)
