Top Breakthrough Roles of 2007

Posted Feb 10, 08 11:38 AM CST in Arts & Living

(Newser) – Before No Country for Old Men, Josh Brolin couldn’t get a job. “My most famous role was in The Goonies,” he reflects. Now, scripts are pouring in. Brolin is one of the New York Times’ 15 “breakout” performers of the year. Many, though not all, are newcomers. Others, like Juno’s Ellen Page, are following artistic breakthroughs with commercial ones. Here’s the list:

  • Casey Afleck (The Assassination of Jesse James)
  • Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men)
  • Michael Cera (Superbad)
  • Julie Christie (Away From Her)
  • Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose)
  • Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood)
  • Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild)
  • Jennifer Jason Leigh (Margot at the Wedding)
  • James McAvoy (Atonement)
  • Sienna Miller (Interview)
  • Ellen Page (Juno)
  • Seth Rogen (Knocked Up)
  • Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone)
  • Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe)
  • Tang Wei (Lust, Caution)
