(Newser) – Most people go on dates lookin' for love, but this one ended instead with a little larceny: A New Jersey woman went out Thursday night with "Joel," a guy she met on an online dating site, reports the Daily Record. She took him back to her place, and one thing led to another—specifically, her getting distracted in another room and him taking off with her $4,000 Yorkie terrier and $3,000 flat-screen TV. She reported the theft to police, who started poking around. Miracle of miracles, Violet the Yorkie appeared tied to the television in the woman's yard around 3am yesterday. Cops say they know the real identity of "Joel," and that "Joel" could be facing charges.

First of all, she was stupid to bring a stranger to her home. But as crappy as this first date was, I have had worse. I had a first (and last) date with a guy who thought it was funny to tell me he killed his last date and cut her into tiny pieces. He was the friend of a friend of a friend... I met at a party. Basically still a stranger. Might as well have met him anywhere. After living through that ordeal, I was much more careful with who I went out with. I am happy to say that I have been married for 23 years to the love of my life. People can be too trusting, and some people who seem normal and maybe even charming are not.

Why is it everyone thinks it is okay to jump into bed on the first date? Whatever happened to self respect? And people wonder why I stopped dating! If you ask me, the "lady" got off easy! Any number of horrible outcomes could have happened!

He soon saw the error in his ways and left or returned the goods in the yard. He was later heard muttering ; The Devil made me do it.
