(Newser) – Louisville used a strangling defense to shut down No. 6 Georgetown's offense last night and scored just enough point itself for a 59-51 Big East win, reports the Associated Press. David Padgett scored 18 points and Jerry Smith had 16 for the Cardinals (18-6, 8-3), but it was the defense that won it as the Hoyas (19-3, 9-2) were held to 35% shooting and 20 points in the second half. In other Top 25 action:

  • No. 4 Kansas failed to hit a 3-pointer for the first time in 271 games, but still managed to beat Baylor 100-90 in a Big 12 game. Darrell Arthur led the Jayhawks with 23 points, and Russell Robinson added 22.
  • No. 15 Drake won its 21st straight game behind a season-high 21 points from Jonathan Cox in a 73-65 win over Evansville. The Bulldogs need one more win to clinch the Missouri Valley Conference.
