(Newser) – Actors who've been in the biz for years without ever snagging an Academy Award probably shake their heads and sigh when they think about these six celebrities rounded up by Biography.com—all of whom won Oscars for their film debuts. A sampling:

  • Julie Andrews: Best Actress, Mary Poppins, 1964

  • Barbra Streisand: Best Actress, Funny Girl, 1969
  • Jennifer Hudson: Best Supporting Actress, Dreamgirls, 2006
