IU Plans Report Next Week on Sampson

Hoosiers' coach on hot seat for alleged NCAA phone violations

(Newser) – Kelvin Sampson's fate at Indiana will become more clear in seven days, reports the Indianapolis Star. IU President Michael McRobbie said Friday that Athletic Director Rick Greenspan has a week to investigate allegations against Sampson. If Greenspan recommends Sampson be fired, the coach has 10 days to appeal the ruling. "These are serious allegations of misconduct," McRobbie said.

The NCAA said Wednesday that Sampson and his staff violated telephone recruiting rules put in place because of previous violations at Oklahoma, then lied to the school and the NCAA, reports the Associated Press. Sampson's contract allows for IU to fire him for "just cause," which includes violating NCAA rules. The NCAA hearing isn't until June 14.
