No. 3 North Carolina Bests NC State 84-70

Tyler Hansbrough’s 32 points and 12 rebounds led No. 3 North Carolina past in-state rival North Carolina State 84-70. The Tar Heels had a 31-7 run that spanned the two halves; the Wolfpack was never close after that stretch. Wayne Ellington contributed 21 points for the 25-2 Heels. Gavin Grant led N.C. State with 17 points, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in men’s basketball:

  • Twelve different Spartans scored as No. 17 Michigan State rolled over Penn State 86-49. Raymar Morgan led the way with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
  • The No. 25 Marquette Golden Eagles have won three straight games after defeating St. John’s 73-64. Jerel McNeal scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Marquette.
