Police, the FBI, and the US Postal Service are investigating hate mail sent to black students at an elite prep school, the New York Times reports. Sources say students at St. Paul's School in New Hampshire received letters containing their photos from the school's directory with the words "bang bang get out of here" beneath. The letters had apparently been posted from a nearby town.

St. Paul's is considered one of the nation's top schools, with famous alumni including Sen. John Kerry. Some 40 of its 525 students are black and it's thought at least half of them received the letters. "It is an outrage,” the school's rector wrote to parents. “While only some were threatened directly, we all have been wounded by this." The school has increased security and requested a police detail. (More prep schools stories.)
