A cartoon that ran in Canada's Chronicle Herald today is the toast of social media, reports Mediaite. The drawing by Bruce MacKinnon depicts Cpt. Nathan Cirillo, who was fatally shot yesterday while guarding the nation's War Memorial. In the cartoon, a soldier from the statue is seen kneeling on the ground to help Cirillo as another reaches down to lend a hand. “I can’t really take credit for what the cartoon has evoked in people because I think it’s the emotion attached to the story that triggers the response,” says the cartoonist.

"I think we can go ahead and give the 2014 National Newspaper Award for editorial cartoons to @ch_cartoon," reads a typical tweet. Another one cited by Time reads, "Cried looking at @ch_cartoon this morning, cried describing it to a colleague. Will try not to cry during interview just after 3pm today." (More cartoon stories.)
