New parents Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are, it seems, big fans of Victor Hugo's novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame—such big fans, in fact, that they named their daughter after one of its characters, People reports. "We both love the Esmeralda character … and we just think it’s a beautiful name," Mendes tells Violet Grey. "Her middle is Amada, which was my grandmother’s name. It means 'beloved' in Spanish." Esmeralda Amada was born in September after a pregnancy that mostly flew under the radar. (More Eva Mendes stories.)
