It's apparently hard to be an unemployed dentist. The jobless rate in the field of 0.9% is one of the reasons it ranks as No. 1 on US News' ranking of the top jobs for 2015. Its median salary of $146,340 doesn't hurt, along with its "decent work-life balance." The ranking is based on a number of factors, including potential growth in the field, not just money. Here are the top 10, with health care and technology leading the way:

  1. Dentist, median salary of $146,340
  2. Nurse practitioner, $92,670

  1. Software developer, $92,660
  2. Physician, $186,850
  3. Dental hygienist, $71,110
  4. Computer systems analyst, $81,190
  5. Information security analyst, $88,590
