An Australian pro golfer was allegedly kidnapped from a wine bar Friday night, beat up, robbed, and dumped six miles away in a park—for reasons that are none too clear, the Golf Channel reports. According to golfer Robert Allenby and his caddie, Mick Middlemo, the two were hanging out with a buddy at the Amuse Wine Bar in Honolulu after Allenby had failed to make the Sony Open cut. "I was separated from my friend in the bar after we had paid the tab at 10:48pm and he went to the bathroom and next thing you know I'm being dumped in a park miles away," Allenby tells the Australian Associated Press. Allenby says he suspects the alleged kidnappers drugged him at the bar.
The bad guys allegedly took him to an underground parking lot, knocked him out, and tossed him in the trunk of the car. A homeless woman later "saw a few guys pull up and throw me out of the car," explains Allenby. "That is where I got the scrapes above my eye from the sidewalk." He was left without cash, credit cards, wallet, or cellphone, but a "retired military guy" helped by paying for his taxi back to the hotel, says the 43-year-old golfer. Since then, he's apparently been assisting police and PGA Tour FBI officials with their inquiries. Scans say he has no scary head or facial injuries, and he should be flying home soon, Australia's News Network reports. He may even take part in the Humana Challenge in California's Coachella Valley next week. (More golf stories.)
