(Newser) – President Obama is in safe bipartisan territory on this one: "I loved Spock," he declared today upon the death of Leonard Nimoy at age 83. "Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy," he said in a White House statement, reports Time. Obama lauded Nimoy's support of the arts and sciences, and, above all, his portrayal of Spock. "Cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of Star Trek’s optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity’s future." (The president knew how to do the Vulcan salute, too.) Elsewhere around the web, the Daily News rounds up its five favorite Spock moments here, and Mashable presents some of Nimoy's work as a photographer here.
