A young mixed-breed dog in Florida is recovering after a sickening ordeal—and a dramatic rescue. Police in Tampa discovered the dog, who had been shot three times, tied to railroad tracks after investigating reports of gunshots in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood and hearing whimpering Wednesday evening, reports NBC News. Authorities stopped an oncoming train, and the dog, who has been named Cabela, was rushed to a veterinary center. Her right front leg had to be amputated last night because of gunshot wounds, but she's expected to survive, the AP reports.

"Dogs rebound quick," a vet at the Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service tells CNN. "Really, after everything that this dog has gone through ... she's the sweetest," she says. "I mean, she's not angry with people. She's not growling. She's been really, really good." The vet says Cabela will be placed with a "good family" when she has recovered. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of and conviction of the person who shot Cabela and tied her to the tracks with a belt, and Crime Stoppers is offering another $3,000, NBC reports.
