A parental battle over a boy's circumcision came to an emotional end in a Florida courtroom today when Heather Hironimus reluctantly agreed to let the procedure take place. Hironimus has been jailed for a week over her opposition to the circumcision, and she relented only when a judge informed her that she wouldn't get out until she changed her mind, reports the Palm Beach Post. "Still wearing handcuffs, and weeping, she took a pen from her attorney, Thomas Hunker, and signed the consent," writes the Sun Sentinel.

Hironimus still faces charges of custodial interference because she went into hiding with the boy for months after losing a previous court decision about the circumcision. She was arrested last week, and the 4-year-old boy has been living his father ever since. He can now move forward with the circumcision, though no date has been scheduled. “You are going to have to learn to deal with each other in a civil and amicable manner,” the judge told the couple, who never married. “You will always be this little guy’s parents.” (More circumcision stories.)
