A sampling: Long commute: When one or more spouse travels 45 minutes or more each way, the rate of divorce ticks up. Peer pressure: People are far more likely to divorce if a family member or a close friend has done so. A daughter: For some reason, a couple whose first child is a girl is more likely to divorce. Equal chores: Maybe the most counter-intuitive of the bunch. Couples who split the housework equally had a higher divorce rate in a Norwegian study.
