Wildcats win Southern Conference, earn 3rd straight NCAA trip

(Newser) – The No. 23 Davidson Wildcats defeated Elon to win their third consecutive Southern Conference title and advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats' standard-bearer, as usual, by conference player of the year Stephen Curry; the sophomore had 23 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the team. T.J. Douglas led the Phoenix with 18 points on six 3-pointers, reports the Associated Press.

The victory gave Davidson 22 consecutive wins, which is the longest current streak in the country. It also extended the Wildcats’ conference winning streak to 36 games. Elon entered the tournament as the seventh seed after finishing the regular season with an 11-18 record. The Phoenix toppled conference powers Chattanooga and College of Charleston to reach the tournament final.
