Bulldogs bite Cleveland State in Horizon League final

(Newser) – Senior guard Mike Green tied a career-high with 24 points as No. 12 Butler downed Cleveland State 70-55 to earn its fifth Horizon League championship. The Bulldogs last won the league in 2001, but have journeyed to the NCAA tournament twice since then as an at-large team. J'Nathan Bullock led the Vikings with 21 points and nine rebounds, reports the Associated Press.

Butler jumped out to a 20-6 lead, but the Vikings rallied and pulled to within four at the break. Cleveland State hung around early in the second half, but a 17-3 Bulldog run doomed any chances of victory. The Vikings are now left hoping for an at-large bid to make the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1986.

(NEWSER) - Butler answered all but one of Tennessee's runs in their second round NCAA tournament matchup today. Unfortunately for the Horizon League champs (30-4), they couldn't match the Vols in overtime, and fell 76-71. Bulldogs nail 15 3-pointers en route to easy first-round win

(NEWSER) - Seventh-seeded Butler was 23-0 when making eight 3-pointers or more going into its first round NCAA Tournament game with South Alabama today; Peter Campbell made sure it was 24-0 all by himself. Campbell scored 26 points, with, yes, eight 3-pointers ,to lift the Bulldogs to an 81-61 win, reports the Indianapolis Star. Campbell made the last six shots he attempted from beyond the arc. More»
