Beating Blues Brings Sharks' Streak to 11

Posted Mar 15, 08 7:16 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Sharks did all their damage in the first period last night, first scoring 70 seconds in and then getting three goals within three minutes to put the game well out of St. Louis's reach. The 4-1 victory was the 11th straight for the Sharks, setting a new franchise record and increasing San Jose's division lead over Dallas, the Mercury News reports. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Florida continued a streak of its own, nabbing its sixth consecutive win on the Olli Jokinen goal that nudged the Panthers past the Rangers 3-2.
  • Washington turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 victory over Atlanta with the help of two Brooks Laich goals and strength both on the power play and when shorthanded.
