(Newser) – Sophomore Wayne Ellington scored 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting as North Carolina defeated Clemson for the third time this season, 86-81, to win the ACC championship. The Tigers, who took the Tar Heels to overtime in their previous two meetings, got 28 points from guard K.C. Rivers. This was UNC's 17th conference tournament title, reports AP. In other conference championship games:

  • Regular season champion Wisconsin added the Big 10 tournament title to its resume with its usual stifling defense in a 61-48 victory over surprising Illinois. The Badgers (29-4) have won 10 straight.
  • Mario Chalmers had a career-high 30 points as Kansas won the battle of the Big 12 regular season co-champions, 84-74, over Texas. UK is now 31-3.
