Pakistan Bombing Kills 25

Suicide bomber hits crowded restaurant at lunchtime

(Newser) – A suicide bomber destroyed a hotel restaurant in Peshawar, Pakistan, today, killing 25 in what may have been a retaliation for the weekend slaying of a top Taliban chief. The bomber's severed leg had a note attached to it that read: "Those who spy for America will face the same fate."

Peshawar is a notorious hotbed of extremism and espionage; analysts report that a string of militant bombings this year has targeted anyone too closely affiliated with the United States or President Pervez Musharraf, a U.S. ally. But there is no evidence that this incident was tied to recent political strikes that have left dozens dead in southern Pakistan.
