Cops: Bill Murray Chucks Fans' Phones Off Roof

Well, not every Bill Murray sighting can feature the star "epically" crashing a bachelor party or parachuting into the middle of an air show. The BBC reports the actor allegedly tossed a couple of phones from a rooftop bar Thursday in Carmel, California, after getting annoyed at people taking pictures of him. Murray, playing in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament nearby, was at a restaurant frequented by celebrities when the photos started, according to TMZ. Restaurant owner Scott Pepe says flashes from the fans' phones were going off only 10 feet from Murray's face.

Murray allegedly grabbed the phones from two people and threw them off the roof. A third phone landed on a cushion, the Guardian reports. Murray left the scene before police arrived, but officers caught up with the star on Friday. He offered to pay for the damaged phones, and—as TMZ puts it—"the phone owners were cool with that." No charges are being pursued against Murray. Pepe says he'll be changing his restaurant's policy to ban phones and photography in the future. The incident happened at a party being hosted by Justin Timberlake. (More Bill Murray stories.)
