Markets Close Slightly Higher
Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq all post modest gains

(Newser) – Stocks are closing slightly higher, led by gain in energy companies as prices for crude oil and natural gas rose. Chesapeake Energy climbed 8% Wednesday, Devon Energy rose 7%, and Newfield Exploration rose 6%. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 36 points, or 0.2%, to 17,000. The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed 10 points, or 0.5%, to 1,989. The Nasdaq composite increased 25 points, or 0.6%, to 4,674.
