(Newser) – Tourists may be wary of hailing a speeding cab in Manhattan, but the Big Apple doesn't even fall in the top 20 "fastest" US cities, let alone the top 10, per an Auto Insurance Center examination of speeding deaths across the country. The center looked at more than 12,000 deadly car crashes and the average speed at which they happened, pulling out the states with the highest average speed (Georgia, at 70mph), states with the most speeding-related car accidents (Wyoming), and the roadways with the highest speeds clocked in fatal crashes (I-95 in South Carolina). California claims five of the top 10 fastest cities in the nation:

  1. Dallas, 68.13mph
  2. Corona, Calif., 65.07mph
  3. Oakland, Calif., 64.04mph
  4. Victorville, Calif., 62.71mph
  5. St. George, Utah, 62.15mph
  6. Davie, Fla., 61.53mph
  7. San Jose, Calif., 61.49mph
  8. Rocky Mount, NC, 61.14mph
  9. Kansas City, Mo., 59.50
  10. Hesperia, Calif., 59.00
(In Florida, citizens pull over the cops for speeding.)
