Musketeers win in overtime

(Newser) – Josh Duncan gave it his all tonight as Xavier downed West Virginia in overtime, 79-75. The senior scored 26 points in the win as the Musketeers move on to the Elite Eight this Saturday. Xavier looked ready to hand the game over to West Virginia late in the second after blowing a lead that had ranged as high as 18 points, but luck was on their side.

Mountaineer Joe Alexander missed a crucial free throw in the final seconds that let the game go into overtime. West Virginia grabbed the early lead in extra minutes, but Xavier answered with three straight three-pointers to shift the momentum back. Two of those came from B.J. Raymond, who scored eight points in OT, while C.J. Anderson and Jason Love picked up 10 rebounds apiece.

(NEWSER) - Purdue made its run today, but third-seeded Xavier refused to wilt in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, like it did last season. The Musketeers blew a 10-point second-half lead, but answered with seven straight points for an 85-78 win over the Boilermakers, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer. Mountaineers hit 11 3-pointer to cruise past Wildcats

(NEWSER) - The NCAA Tournament selection committee gave Arizona its nation's-best 24th straight trip to the Big Dance. Last night, West Virginia made sure the Wildcats lost in the first round for the 10th time during that streak with a 75-65 win, reports the Associated Press. (NEWSER) - Temple earned its first NCAA Tournament bid since reaching the Elite Eight in 2001, with a 69-64 triumph over Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 championship game today, reports the Associated Press.
