(Newser) – Tomas Plekanec scored twice in the final 2:31, including the tying goal with 15 seconds remaining, and teammate Christopher Higgins scored in overtime as Montreal dealt Buffalo a serious blow to its playoff hopes with 4-3 victory. Mark Streit added three assists for the Canadiens, who took over first place in the Eastern Conference, reports AP. Also on the ice:

  • Brad Boyes picked a nice time for a milestone goal - his 40th - scoring the winner in overtime as St. Louis won at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Boyes and Paul Kariya each had three points
  • Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Brent Burns had power play goals for Minnesota and Niklas Backstrom made 28 saves in shutting out Vancouver, 4-0.
