Panetta: Trump Inviting Russia to Hack Clinton Is 'Inconceivable' He says Clinton is the candidate who will keep America safe By Michael Harthorne, Newser Staff Posted Jul 27, 2016 8:14 PM CDT 130 comments Comments Former defense secretary Leon Panetta speaks during the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Wednesday. "She is smart, she is principled, she is tough, and she is ready," Panetta told the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night. As secretary of state, Clinton was one of the firmest voices for going after Osama bin Laden, he said. He said Clinton made it clear that "no one attacks the United States of America and gets away with it." Panetta said Clinton is just as determined to go after ISIS and others who threaten American safety today. At the same time, Panetta slammed Donald Trump for praising dictators and getting his foreign policy experience from the Miss Universe pageant. "This is no time to gamble with our future," he said. "In an unstable world, we cannot afford unstable leadership." He said Trump asking for Russian hackers to interfere with an American election is proof of his unfitness to be president. "It is inconceivable to me that any presidential candidate would be that irresponsible."
