'Stanford Rapist' to Be Released After Serving Half of Sentence

Brock Turner, the former Stanford swimmer whose sexual assault conviction and subsequent sentencing to six months in jail made headlines, is scheduled to be released Friday after serving just three months behind bars. The San Jose Mercury News confirmed the release date via jail records and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, and the newspaper notes that the early release was "widely expected" since Turner did not have a prior criminal history. He must still complete a sex offender management program. (More Brock Turner stories.)
