A Republican running for office in New Jersey allegedly told a Daily Beast journalist he hoped she'd be raped. After she shared a story about Donald Trump's ex-wife, Marla Maples, reporter Olivia Nuzzi says Mike Krawitz sent her threatening messages reading, "I. Hope. Somebody. Rapes. You. Today. :)," and "Hope. You. Get. Raped. By. A. Syrian. Refugee. :)." The messages are nothing new, alleges Nuzzi, who says Krawitz has been harassing her for more than a year. However, Nuzzi only recently learned that Krawitz, 41, is running for the fourth time for a spot on the West Deptford Township Committee. Krawitz claims his account was hacked, though he says he "might have" written another offensive message to Nuzzi in December, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Daily Beast "is a Democratic organization, I don't even follow that stuff. I don't go on those websites," the Trump supporter adds. The West Deptford GOP, meanwhile, says it "does not condone any repulsive, threatening, or demeaning rhetoric in any social media form or otherwise," but is "contacting Twitter for confirmation that someone hacked his account," per Politico—even though the exchange with Nuzzi occurred on Facebook. "I don't buy the idea that someone hacked a low-level local political candidate a year ago and spent all that time harassing a journalist on there for sport," says Nuzzi. She believes Krawitz is "not Internet-savvy enough to know that people can see what he says—or he doesn't care." (This journalist escaped a "crazy" kidnapping, only to land in a new mess.)
