UConn Beats Rutgers, Advances to Final Four

Stanford up next for Husky women

(Newser) – The Connecticut Huskies battled back from a 14-point deficit to beat Rutgers 66-56 and advance to the Final Four. It is their first trip to the national semifinals since 2004 and the first for the four seniors on the roster, which is odd for a program that has won five national championships since 1995, reports the Hartford Courant.

UConn was able to win despite getting only seven points out of All-American Maya Moore, who was also the first freshman ever to win Big East player of the year honors. Ketia Swanier and Renee Montgomery led the Huskies with 15 points each. Geno Auriemma’s squad struggled from the field but was deadly from the free throw line, making 19 of 21 attempts.
