The gender pay gap in the US stands at around 28% for workers over the age of 15, Smart Asset reports. That means women earn 72 cents for every dollar a man makes. But it's not equal everywhere. For example, women in Provo-Orem, Utah, earn just 45% of what men make, while women in Santa Fe, New Mexico, take home 91% of what their male colleagues do. By looking at the pay gap, ratio of working women to working men, percentage of women working, unemployment rate for women, and more, Smart Asset came up with the following list of the 10 best places for working women in the US:

  1. Rochester, Minnesota
  2. Columbia, Missouri
  3. Topeka, Kansas
  4. Claremont-Lebanon, New Hampshire-Vermont
  5. Burlington-South Burlington, Vermont
  6. Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota-Wisconsin
  7. Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina
  8. Charlottesville, Virginia
  9. Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  10. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-Virginia-Maryland-West Virginia
