Prince Philip Hospitalized

Queen's husband is being 'assessed and treated' for chest infection

(Newser) – Prince Philip has been hospitalized with a chest infection, Buckingham Palace announced today. Queen Elizabeth’s husband, 86, walked into the hospital unaided and was able to sit up in bed and write, the Times of London reports. Using his formal title, a palace spokeswoman said: "The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to King Edward VII Hospital for assessment and treatment for a chest infection.”

Unconfirmed reports last year said a heart condition requires Philip to take regular medication. The prince seemed fine at last week's arrival ceremony for Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni, but a bad cold this week kept him from a thanksgiving service honoring Sir Edmund Hillary. His previous health problems have been mostly sports-related, the Guardian reports.
