Fortune Names World's 10 Best Leaders
Theo Epstein, Jack Ma top the list

(Newser) – The world's greatest leaders aren't necessarily heading countries. Indeed, the greatest leader is US politics is an Army general, according to Fortune's fourth annual list of the world's 50 greatest leaders. However, each individual on the list—43 of whom appear for the first time—"acknowledge reality and offer hope," "bring followers physically together," and "build bridges," Fortune explains. The top 10:

  1. Theo Epstein, Chicago Cubs president
  2. Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba
  3. Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church
  4. Melinda Gates, philanthropist
  5. Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO
  6. Ava DuVernay, film director
  7. HR McMaster, US National Security Adviser
  8. Tsai Ing-wen, president of Taiwan
  9. John McCain, US senator
  10. Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany
